Quarterly Focus: Money
Each quarter I’ll have a work focus, explain the thought process behind it and lay out an action plan. Right now money is so important to the health of our city I have made it the focus of my work my entire first year in office.
The Thought Process Behind It:
As a city there is work to be done in strengthening local businesses and getting the ball rolling with diversified revenue sources.
It’s important to note approximately 78 percent of Lemon Grove’s income goes to salaries and pensions, leaving little left over. For the past 11+ years, the city has witnessed a decrease in income with rising expenses.
Legitimate businesses generate the sales tax that our city needs and uses to provide services to our residents. Therefore, it is in our best interest the city support our local businesses in any way it can.
Action Plan
This quarter I’ll be working on:
building a relationship with our business community
working with city staff on ensuring a fair/reasonable process for diversified revenue sources to plant roots in our city
